HOT STAMPING

Hot stamping (or foil stamping) is a dry printing method in which foils (metallic, holographic) are transferred to the printed surface at high pressures and temperatures. The shape of the stamped motif is determined by the size and shape of the die, generally manufactured from magnesium or brass.

The hot stamping techniques are most often used in security printing where hologram, Kinegram or metallic foil are used in ensuring security. It can also be applied in the so-called dry embossing (or relief embossing) – a relief embossed into the paper texture without the use of foil.
